Pawlugu Multipurpose Dam Project

The Pwalugu Multipurpose Dam (PMD) is proposed to be built along the White Volta River in the Upper East and Northern Regions about 15km East of Pwalugu bridge on the main Tamale-Bolgatanga road. The three main objectives of the PMD are to provide hydropower generation, contribute to the development of irrigation, and prevent flooding in the Project area.

Preparatory studies, for instance a technical feasibility study, and the environmental and social impact assessment (ESIA) are underway. The 20 month ESIA study began in September 2013. Receipt of scoping comments ended on January 15, 2014.
