Students of VRA Schools Urged to Pursue Academic Excellence

The group Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of CDH Financial Holdings, Mr. Emmanuel Adu Sarkodie, has asked students of the Volta River Authority (VRA) Schools at the Akosombo International School (AIS) to set standards that would urge them to strive for academic excellence.

He said the attainment of academic excellence should be guided by the setting of attainable goals while stressing the need for students to identify highly successful people within the nation and strive to do better than them. Mr. Emmanuel Adu Sarkodie was speaking on the theme "Sustaining Academic Excellence" at the 41st Speech and Prize Giving Day of the Senior High School division of the Akosombo International School (AIS) in Akosombo.

He underscored the need for students, teachers and parents to maintain a high level of discipline that would impact positively on their academic pursuit. "I implore you students to be ethical in your relations with your colleagues as it will lead to relationships built on trust which could be a future resource to you," He said.

The Headmaster of the Senior High School section of the Akosombo International School, Mr. Julius Kog-Der, in a report, said the School had recorded an improvement in the 2013 West Africa Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) result as compared to the previous year.  He stated the school is making strides in Information Communication Technology (I.C.T) education by means of electronic voting to elect student leaders.

Mr. Kog-Der bemoaned the growing need to expand the school's facilities to accommodate its increasing population to make teaching and learning comfortable. He disclosed that the school has introduced Scholastic Assessment Test (SAT) General Certificate in addition to the WASSCE and Cambridge Ordinary Level Certificate programmes it was already running.

The General Manager of Volta River Authority (VRA) Schools Mr. Arnold Seshie, commended the 1988 year group of the school for hosting this year's event, and fulfilling their promise to furnish the school's Assembly Hall with chairs and providing books for the prize-giving ceremony.

He also commended Mr. Emmanuel Adu Sarkodie who donated an amount of Twenty Five Thousand Ghana Cedis (GH₵25,000.00) on behalf of CDH Financial Holdings to aid the school's I.C.T expansion project.

Ing. Nana Kwaku Amoako-Baah II, Manager, International Business Development at the Volta River Authority, who chaired the programme commended the old students for their contributions toward the development of the school, and urged them to always make an effort to take part in activities of the school.

Some deserving students, teaching and non-teaching staff were presented with awards.
