Chief Executive and Board Members Commission Ultra-Modern 3D Mammogram Machine

The Chief Executive, Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa and members of the VRA Board on Wednesday, October 12, 2022, commissioned an ultra-modern three-dimensional (3D) mammogram machine at the VRA Hospital, Akosombo as part of efforts to enhance breast cancer screening and detection at the facility.

The machine, which is the second of its kind in Ghana, and the second mammogram unit in the Eastern Region, is expected to serve a regional population of about 2.9million people of which 50.8% are women.

Present at the commissioning were Management and Staff of VRA, traditional authorities, representatives from the Eastern Regional Directorate of Ghana Health Services and other dignitaries.

The 3D Mammogram machine at VRA Hospital, Akosombo and a 2D mammogram machine recently installed at VRA Hospital, Accra, are expected to put the Authority’s hospitals at the forefront of breast cancer screening and detection.

The acquisition of the mammogram machines was an initiative of the VRA Ladies Association.
