Chief Executive Reiterates VRA’s Commitment to Supporting Initiatives which Enhance Media Capacity
The Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority (VRA), Mr. Emmanuel Antwi-Darkwa, has reiterated the Authority’s commitment to supporting initiatives which enhance media capacity in driving national development.
He gave the assurance in a speech, which was read on his behalf by the Deputy Chief Executive (Services), Ing. Kenneth Arthur, at the Opening Ceremony for the 3rd Cohort of the Media Capacity Enhancement Programme (MCEP), held in Accra on September 10, 2024.
The 3 day programme, organized by the Ministry of Information, aims to bolster the capacity of media practitioners across Ghana in response to the growing demand for accurate, ethical, and impactful journalism.
In his remarks, Mr. Antwi-Darkwa underscored the critical role the media plays in shaping public opinion and driving national development, particularly within the energy sector. He highlighted the media’s role in informing and educating the public on key issues such as energy conservation, sustainability, and renewable energy solutions, emphasizing how effective communication on these topics contribute to Ghana’s energy security and future growth.
Mr. Antwi-Darkwa also noted that a strong, well-informed media is key to fostering transparency, accountability, and stakeholder engagement, especially in sectors as dynamic and complex as energy.
Present at the event was the Minister for Information, Hon. Fatimatu Abubakar, who commended the collaboration between government agencies and corporate bodies like VRA in promoting media capacity building. She emphasized the need for continuous training to ensure the media plays its role effectively in national development.
The MCEP, now in its third cohort, has become a vital initiative in enhancing the media landscape, ensuring that media practitioners are equipped with skills required to elevate the standards of journalism and media practice in Ghana.
