Mr. Francis Eghan Ekuban Retires from VRA
The Former Akosombo Area Human Resources (HR) Manager, Mr. Francis Eghan Ekuban has retired from active service in the Authority.
Mr Ekuban, until his retirement, was the manager in-charge of the Akosombo HR Department.
He joined the Authority in 1985 as an Assistant Administrative Officer after graduating in 1978 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Sociology and History from the University of Ghana, in the Greater Accra Region of Ghana.
Mr Ekuban did his National Service at the New Juabeng Secondary Commercial in Koforidua after which he proceeded to the University of Ghana for his post graduate degree in Public Administration between 1981and 1984.
He rose through the ranks to become the Akuse Town Manager in 1993 and was subsequently transferred to the Human Resource (HR) Department as Manager for the Akosombo Area Human Resource in January, 1999.
In a brief interview with the Corporate Communications Unit, Mr. Ekuban disclosed that the values and policies of the Authority have shaped him as a person and this he believes reflected in his role as HR Manager.
“HR Department was seen as a feared place so I tried to change this perception about HR and get staff to appreciate and desire HR. I operated an open door policy where staff could walk in anytime to express their grievances and concerns." He said.
The Director of Health Services Department of the Authority, Dr. (Mrs.) Rebecca Acquaah Arhin, commenting on Mr. Ekuban’s retirement, described him as a man whose relationship with staff transcends the working environment to their personal welfare.
"I met Mr. Ekuban when I first came to Akosombo with my family as a young Medical Doctor. We were actually neighbours and apart from him being my HR Manager who should be concernd with my welfare at work, he was equally concernd with what happened around me at home which I found to be a very rare quality". She said.
Mr Francis Eghan Ekuban believes he has contributed significantly to the transformation of the Human Resources Department in Akosombo.
"I believe that the values of the Authority can be operationalized only if top management inculcates these values into their daily activities. The Human Resources Department can be improved tremendously by putting in place mechanisms that can cope with and manage conflicting issues in the Authority," he said.
