"Be the Change You want to See" - Students of Akosombo International School Urged
The Acting Senior Manager of the VRA Academy, Mr. Eric Mensah-Bonsu has urged students of the VRA Schools, Akosombo to be the change they so desire to see around them in the country.
Mr. Bonsu who was the guest speaker at this year's graduation ceremony of the Akosomobo International School (AIS) observed that students are supposed to be agents of change wherever they find themselves and therefore urged them to ensure that the necessary positive changes are effected.
Speaking on the theme: "Being a change agent in the 21st century-Prospects and Challenges", he described a change agent as an individual who can bring about positive, lasting change to his environment while mindful of the fact that society is full of vices that are likely to draw them back or hinder their efforts of achieving success as students.
Mr. Mensah-Bonsu said in order to become an effective change agent, one must have vision and set goals, learn to say no when appropriate, have a "can do" spirit and constantly improve.
"The 21st Century requires certain skills and abilities in this information age to succeed. These include critical thinking, creative thinking, information literacy, technology literacy, leadership and social skills just to mention a few", he noted.
The headmaster, Senior High School division of the AIS, Mr. Julius Kog-Der in his report indicated that the Senior High School since its establishment has seen notable transformation from a one stream school to a five stream school.
Mr. Kog-Der said the school continuous to strive hard to be the pace setters within the educational sector in the country citing a recent award won by a former student of the school Master James Torkonoo, who received a scholarship award from the University of Alberta for Excellence in Academic work for the 2014/2015 Academic year.
He also disclosed that the school has been nominated for the International Star for Leadership in quality and Excellence in 2015 Award by Business Initiative Directives (BID), an International Non-Governmental Organization.
"In the fields of Sports, three of the graduands have been nominated for the prestigious University of Lancaster, Ghana awards for Basketball and Soccer", he said.
The Head Prefect of the school, Master Kwasi Deyoungster, in his valedictory speech was grateful to both management and staff of the school for their guidance and counseling throughout their three years stay.
He said even though most of them came to the school with varied aspirations and expectations, he was glad those expectations have been met.
The Chairman of the Parents Teachers' Association (PTA) of the school, Mr. Atto Esiam said as stakeholders of the school, they will continue to play active part in ensuring that the school’s main focus of achieving academic excellence is attained.
"The PTA in consultation with the management of the school put in place some interventions to help improve the academic standards of the school. Some of them were tough but had to be implemented to enable them achieve their goals," he said.
