VRA Lauded for Prioritizing Safety of Staff

The Eastern Regional Minister, Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso, has praised the Volta River Authority for prioritizing occupational safety of its workers through well-laid out safety measures at its Hydro Generating Station in Akosombo.
Madam Ntoso who herself is a former rescuer with the National Disaster Management Organization said she was impressed with the level of fire preventive and disaster exit measures the Authority has put in place to ensure staff safety on the job.

Speaking in an interview with the Corporate Communications Unit during her visit to the Akosombo Hydro Generating Station, the Minister noted that her visit to the Authority is crucial since it is her first official working visit to the generating station to enable her have a better appreciation of the operations of the facility. "I have once worked in a rescue sector before so when I see organizations put in place safety measures like what I see in your control room and around the facility then I am impressed", she said. She lauded the level of staff commitment towards contributing their quota to the socio-economic development of the country.

Madam Helen Adjoa Ntoso disclosed her outfit's preparedness to advise government in wooing investors to consider investing in cable buses around the Akosombo dam to help boost and add value to the tourism potential of the dam. She observed the Akosombo dam has enormous tourism capacities that need to be tapped for people to pay for and patronise. "People would appreciate it more if they can get more than just coming to look at the dam and how it operates by having a chance to experience a cable bus drive from one end of the dam to the other and pay for it", she noted

Receiving the Eastern Regional Minister and her entourage on behalf of Management, the Director Hydro Generation Department, Mr K.B Amoako said the Authority is happy to be recognised for the role it is playing within the power industry. He noted the Authority has over the years put in place measures that would soon yield into sufficient power generation for the country.

Also present to welcome the Eastern Regional Minister were the Akosombo Town Manager Mr Edwin Aryetey, Mr Kenneth Appiah Oppong from the Marine Services Unit and Mrs Rhoda Enyonam Arthur from the Corporate Communications Unit.
