Volta River Authority Holds Rememberance Service for the Late Ing. Louis Casely-Hayford

The Volta River Authority (VRA) has held a remembrance service for the late Ing. Dr. Casely-Hayford, a former Chief Executive of the Authority who passed away in November 2014. He was aged 78.

In a tribute read by the Acting Deputy Chief Executive (Services), Ing. Joseph S. Sutherland, on behalf of the VRA, the late Casely-Hayford was described as a man with astute leadership, unrivalled success and exceptional dedication to service.

“Louis focused on man-power and leadership development. He created the VRA Training School that trained engineers, technicians and other disciplines needed to support the power sector”, Ing. Sutherland disclosed.

Ing Sutherland also noted that the late Ing. Dr Casely-Hayford was the brain behind the extension of power to the Northern sector of the country and the transformation of the Akosombo Township.

The late Ing. Dr Louis Casely Hayford, born on July 13, 1936 to Mr Archie Casely-Hayford and Mrs Essie Casely-Hayford in Takoradi joined the Volta River Authority on October 25, 1962 as a Mechanical Engineer. He rose, by dint of hard work and devotion to duty, through the ranks to the very high position of Chief Executive.

Ing. Dr. Casely-Hayford, an accomplished Engineer, is praised for playing several roles in the success story of the Volta River Authority. Among them is the inter-connection of the electrical systems of Ghana-Togo-Benin and Ghana-La Cote d'Ivoire.

The Special Guest for the service, His Excellency the Vice President of the Republic of Ghana, Mr. Kwesi Bekoe Amissah-Arthur, in his tribute lauded the late Ing. Casely-Hayford for contributing his quota to the development of the power sector.

His Execellency Amissah-Arthur fondly remembered how, as a Deputy Minister for Finance, the late Casely-Hayford would call to offer him constructive criticisms that kept him on his feet at the time. He described the late Engineer as a man passionate about the development of the country's energy sector, given the kind of advice he provided anytime the country was confronted with energy crisis.

The Chief Executive of the Volta River Authority, Ing. Kirk Koffi, in his welcome address, observed that the late Ing. Louis Casely-Hayford deserved to be celebrated since the success story of the Authority cannot be told without the contribution of Ing Casely-Hayford.

Ing Koffi said the Authority is grateful to have benefitted from the knowledge and skill of its former Chief Executive Ing Casely-Hayford.

In a sermon delivered by the Officiating Minister, Rev. Canon R.O Ankrah, he urged all to take their destiny into their own hands by accepting Jesus Christ as the saviour of their life. He indicated that the decision to accept Jesus is paramount to any other decision that one can make.

Reverend Canon Ankrah challenged all to make the right decisions in life especialy the decision to make Jesus Christ the Lord of their lives saying the late Ing Casely-Hayford was a man who made the right decisions that still benefit the energy sector of Ghana.

The service was well attended by both the immediate and extended family of the late Ing. Dr. Louis Casely-Hayford, the Widow Mrs Fredericka Casely-Hayford, Her Ladyship Chief Justice Georgina Theodora Woode and Management and Staff of the Authority.
