VRA Donates to Communities
The Volta River Authority (VRA) has gone a step further in its corporate social responsibility agenda by donating assorted stationery materials to selected schools in its project impacted communities.
The items include: 3,746 books, 99,900 pens, 2000 pencils, 240 AIDS Games and 51 computers to be distributed among Primary and Basic schools in the Asuogyaman, Dangme East and West, North and Central Tongu, the Yilo Krobo Districts and the Lower Manya Krobo Municipal Assembly.
Mrs. Rhoda Arthur, of the Corporate Communications Department of VRA said schools that have benefited from the gesture so far were selected basic schools in Fodzoku , Natriku, Torgorme, Akwamufie and Akwamu West.
She said the donation formed part of the VRA’s effort to improve the educational standard of school children in the VRA communities and added that 211, 000 additional books would be distributed to basic schools in the Authority’s communities.
She projected the VRA’s commitment towards the welfare of these communities whose livelihood has been affected by the construction of the Akosombo and Kpong Hydroelectric dam reservoirs.
She said the VRA had instituted a Community Development Programme to support rapid development in these areas and said the donation was a demonstration of how the authority was committed to their well-being.
Head teachers of the various schools visited expressed satisfaction about the gesture and promised to put them to good use to boost the academic standard of students.
