VRA's Kwasi Aniagyei Elected President of the Ghana Association of Quasi-Health Institutions

The administrator of the VRA Health Services Department, Mr. Kwasi Aniagyei Darko, has been elected President of the Ghana Association of Quasi-Health Institutions (GAQHI). He was elected unopposed president by executives of the association at their third Annual General Meeting on March 21, 2013 in Accra to serve a four- year term of office. He has been a member of the association for nearly ten years and served as its General Secretary for some time before his new appointment.

His administration is to take oversight responsibility of pursuing the vision of the association by employing innovative systems and processes to promote the continous growth of member institutions as centre of excellence for the delivery of quality health services.

Speaking to the VRA News in an interview, Mr. Aniagyei indicated that, the association is a merger of all health facilities which does not fall under the Ministry of Health , the Ghana Health Service  and other organizations such as; the Christian Health Association and the Private Hospitals Group.

GAQHI, he explained, is an association of Health facilities which operate as non-core institutions under major government establishments such as; the VRA, Cocoa Marketing Board, Ghana Ports and Habour Authority, Social Security and National Insurance Trust (SSNIT), Army, Police, Ghana Post and the Public Universities .

According to him, his new appointment offers him a sterling opportunity to project VRA's image within and outside the organization since it is an integral branch of the group which continues to contribute immensely to its overall success. He said his administration is poised to building on the solid foundation of its pioneers and ensures the establishment of firm recognition by the Ministry of Health and the Ghana Health Services to become part of their activities.

In addition, he stated that, his administration was prepared to work hard towards the growth and development of the association by pooling resources from elsewhere as centre of excellence apart from depending on its mother institutions for support.

In this regard, he noted that, negotiations were far advance with the World Health Organization (WHO) and the German Development Partners (GTZ) to introduce preventive Health into the insurance package for member staff of the association. The GAQHI in collaboration with pharmaceutical companies in Ghana was to set up a centre to check and manage the fake drug menace in the country.

Going forward, Mr. Aniagyei said his administration will enhance the health care delivery system by ensuring the provision of the best in terms of human resource, equipment and well organized good health needs of Ghanaians and added that, modalities were being worked out to introduce mobile hospitals to assist in monitoring their health needs of the populace especially those in riverine communities impacted the activities of the VRA.
