CPPCC Vice Chairman Visits Akosombo Hydro-Electric Power Plant

The Vice Chairman of the 12th National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Mr. Ma Biao, has visited the Akosombo Hydro-Electric Power Plant and the Akosombo Switch Yard as part of an official courtesy visit to the Parliament of Ghana.

According to Dr. Ahmed Yakubu, Deputy Minister of Food and Agriculture and a member of the Ghana-China Parliamentary Exchange Programme Committee, the goodwill visit is part of a long standing relationship between the two legislative houses and also an opportunity to test out the political environment of Ghana in the wake of the new political leadership in the country. The Vice Chairman (Deputy Speaker) of the CPPCC led a 10-member delegation from the Federal Republic of China to visit Ghana's Parliament. He was accompanied by the first Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Ebo Barton-Oduro, who led a five-member-parliamentary team; Mr. Gong Jianzhong, Chinese Ambassador to Ghana; and Mr. Yu Jie, Director at the Political Section of the Chinese Embassy in Ghana.

He said Ghanaian Members of Parliament in the association had paid similar visits to China to discuss means of expanding business and economic relationships of common interest between the two countries such as capital and other economic ventures that can be brought to Ghana for the advancement of the economy.

The First Deputy Speaker, Ebo Barton-Oduro, stressed that Ghana had continued to exchange bilateral courtesies with their Chinese counterparts in mutually beneficial prorammes over the past ten years to facilitate government to government relationship.

They were met on arrival by Mr. K.B Amoako, Director of Hydro Generation and Mrs. Rhoda Arthur of the Akosombo Corporate Communications Unit, and taken round the facilities where the Vice Chairman met with some Chinese workers of Sino-Hydro.

The eminent visitor and his entourage cruised on the Volta Lake, onboard the VRA Executive Yacht; OHEMAA LXI after a tour of the dam.
